National Seminar on Regional Maritime Security

Center for Political Studies-Indonesian Institute of Sciences (P2Politik-LIPI)

Regional maritime security in East Asia has a compelling dynamics. States in Southeast and Northeast Asia possess distinct political and economic interests over a particular sea area. ASEAN, as the only regional institution in this area, is playing a critical role in mitigating the tension that might to occur. For Indonesia, regional maritime stability and security is imperative to uphold its maritime development within the framework of the Poros Maritim Dunia (Global Maritime Fulcrum). This seminar will highlight the regional security architecture and propensity of regional states in solving tension and how established norms and institution can facilitate that process. It is expected that Indonesian and Japanese speakers will provide perspectives from both Southeast and Northeast Asia.
